Brazos Breakfast Blend - Alamo Coffee

bag of coffee, grounds pouring into a french press

There is almost nothing better than sitting down in the morning, cool weather outside, and a hot cup of coffee in hand. The Brazos Breakfast Blend is full of flavor and a wonderful sipper for breakfast, coffee time, or any time of day.

Alamo Coffee describes this blend as a light-medium roast with a fruity acidity, notes of sweet pralines and toffee, and a milk chocolate finish. We could definitely taste all of these flavors while drinking this blend.

We brewed Brazos Breakfast Blend in our French press using a medium fine grind and 200-202 degree water. The beans were freshly roasted (only a week or two by the time it arrived in the mail) and produced a very active bloom. It produces a reddish brown color, which I find more typical of lighter roasts. As it sat and steeped a little longer, the color does transition to a darker hue.

I really taste the sweet pralines and toffee throughout the entire cup. It is very smooth and has a creamy mouthfeel. The fruity flavors did appear at the front, especially when sipping, and are aromatic but not dominating.

The chocolate was very subtle and sometimes easy to miss behind the strong praline and toffee flavor. I felt like the chocolate that I noticed tasted more like a darker roasted chocolate than a milk chocolate. The flavor came at the back of my throat and the end of the sip. It doesn’t have the typical dryness that most chocolate flavors have but rather balances well with the creamy flavors that are already present.

I brewed this with multiple ratios and found that when I added a few more grounds (~50 grams), or let it sit for an additional minute in the French press, that it was more robust and the aromatics and flavors blended better.

This is my second bag of coffee from Alamo Coffee out of Lampasas, TX, and I am hooked. They continue to serve freshly roasted beans and high quality flavor! If you are in Lampasas, TX, check out their local coffee shop or visit them online to get a bag of your own.

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
