You Are Not Alone - Katz Coffee & Camp Hope Foundation Review
We recently tried our first bag of Katz coffee out of Houston, Texas, and were very pleased with the flavors. Then Mr. Brew found Katz Cold Brew in Real Ale’s Coffee Stout. So when we crossed paths with the Katz Coffee and PTSD/Camp Hope Foundation’s collaboration – You Are Not Alone – we couldn’t help but grab a bag to try.
Katz describes this coffee as having “overwhelming notes of rich chocolate and tart fruit [that] are rounded out with subtle hints of smoky Madagascar Vanilla” (KATZcoffee.com).
This blend of Indonesian and Central American arabica beans certainly highlights the fruit tartness. I found the fruit to resemble that of a cherry which creates a smooth and earthy mouthfeel but still carries a sweet flavor. The chocolate was more subdued than the fruit and instead accentuated the creamy feel of the coffee.
The Madagascar vanilla tasted more like a caramel (in Mr. Brew’s opinion) and molasses (in Mrs. Brew’s opinion) rather than the strong, sweet vanilla you get from baking. It was highlighted by the smoky flavors and aromas, but not overpowered. By far, the most prominent flavor was the fruit.
A medium roast, the You Are Not Alone PTSD Blend has mild acidity, great flavors, and brings awareness to a community of people who have PTSD and are in need of help. The Camp Hope Foundation, also located in Houston, is dedicated to helping Combat veterans and their families heal from traumatic experiences by providing a whole-person approach. A cause truly worth supporting.
Try a bag for yourself and know that a portion from every bag of Katz coffee connected with a charitable cause goes directly back to the organizations they partner with, so you know that every cup of You Are Not Alone you drink supports Veterans and their families.
Cheers!
Mrs. Brew
