Gingerdead - Death Wish Coffee Review

As we move from pumpkin to sugar, spice, and everything nice, we couldn’t wait to find coffees to match the season. And just in time for the Christmas holiday, Death Wish Coffee Company arrives on scene with Gingerdead.

cup of coffee, bag of coffee

Described as “medium-roasted robusta and arabica beans with a festive mix of liquid ginger, cinnamon, clove, and even more ginger,” we were eager to try a seasonal roast that makes me think of fancifully decorated gingerbread houses.

Although Death Wish took a slightly more sinister approach to my charming thought, their coffee carries a warm balance of ginger and spices, specifically the cloves. A few cups later –  okay, nearly the entire bag – I began to pick up on more of the spice and something reminiscent of an earthy cherry flavor. That might also be the clove and ginger, but it shifted somewhat on my palate to be more forward heavy than the first few cups. Noticeable, and deliciously warming.

If you need something to warm you up and sprinkle some spice on your holiday season, Gingerdead is a wonderful coffee for you. Its flavors blend well and are reminiscent of cold weather, hot coffee, and the calm (before the storm) of a Christmas morning.

Barista Note: If you want to add even more holiday cheer to your mug, turn Gingerdead into a café au lait using egg nog! For two servings, measure 25 grams of Gingerdead and brew a half French press (approx. 16-18 oz). In a small pot, measure out 3 oz of egg nog and warm slowly, stirring constantly so it doesn’t boil and burn. Once it reaches approximately 165℉, tip the pot and froth it for 45-60 seconds until your are pleased with the volume. Fill two mugs ⅔ full with Gingerdead coffee, then top with deliciously frothed egg nog, and enjoy. These two pair nicely with their blend of spices, ginger, and cream, and provide a lovely winter sipper.

Grab a bag of Gingerdead before it’s too late!

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew

P.S. What is a café au lait? A café au lait is brewed coffee with steamed milk. Similar to a typical latte, but without the espresso.
