Texas Joe Coffee - S’more Review
When I think of s’mores, I am sitting around a glowing fire with a toasted marshmallow, melting chocolate, and delicious graham crackers. It is a cozy feeling and one made all the better when the weather is a bit chilly.
Recently, Mr. Brew and I were walking through Central Market in San Antonio and saw Texas Joe Coffee had a S’mores blend in the bulk section. We loved Texas Joe’s Dancing Goat, so we figured we’d try a flavored coffee.
We brewed this to our usual specs in the French press - 50 g medium fine grind, 32 oz of 200-202℉ water, steep for 3-5 minutes. It produces an active bloom and has a bright complex aroma. The aroma is dominated by sweeter notes, reminding me of lighter caramel or Rolos candy. The brightness is toned down in flavor, though still light and a bit acidic in nature. There is a lot of milk chocolate flavor that lightly coats the mouth and adds a touch of creaminess. The toasted marshmallow is subtle and blends with the chocolate, only really shining as a vanilla. The graham cracker flavor is missing which left me wanting. I needed the hearty biscuit to balance some of the light roast qualities and add some additional body.
Although it is missing the graham cracker, this is a perfect roast for anyone who enjoys lighter roasted coffees with strong milk chocolate and vanilla flavors. S’mores? Perhaps not. Vanilla Chocolate? Definitely.
Cheers,
Mrs. Brew
