Shotgun House Roasters - Review

Mr. Brew and I headed downtown recently to check out Shotgun House Roasters. Located in an old sewing factory, this micro-roaster has an industrial, but welcoming atmosphere. We hung out for a while and enjoyed the morning while sipping on their house-made Dirty Chai and house-made Iced Dirty Horchata. Then we snagged a bag of the Brazil Single Origin whole beans to enjoy at home.

Lattes

The Dirty Chai is a much sweeter chai with strong notes of ginger and lemon. There is a touch of spice and clove at the back, but it is a very bright and light chai.

The Dirty Horchata comes iced and is very refreshing. It has a light body, with a mild cinnamon. It is slightly acidic and reminiscent of oranges in my opinion. Although refreshing, it has a drier mouthfeel and left me eager for another sip.

Brazil Single Origin Whole Bean

After sipping on some lattes, we took home a bag of their Brazil single origin whole bean. The bag told us to expect cocoa, smoky, and nutty flavors. We brewed it to our usual specs in our French press (50g medium-fine grind, 200℉ water). These beans produced a very active bloom that revealed how fresh they were. We notice strong grassy and herby aromas and flavors. It has a light smoke that lingers at the back of the palate, but I didn’t find much cocoa or nuttiness. The Single Origin Brazil is a solid base coffee for those who enjoy the grassier coffees and herbier flavors.

Check out Shotgun House Roasters if you find yourself west of downtown San Antonio!

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
