Rise Brewing Co. - Oat Milk Mocha Nitro Cold Brew Review

We continue on our canned coffee journey this week with Rise Brewing Co.’s Oat Milk Mocha. This is a nitro cold brew coffee, dairy free, and registered USDA Organic. I was drawn in by the use of oat milk with mocha and how they would tie those flavors together with the nitro. And I was not disappointed!

When I cracked the top of this can, I could hear the nitrogen pop and whizz from inside (just like a Guinness), which was very cool! And, it didn’t overflow and make a mess. After popping the top, I was met with a very pleasant chocolate aroma.

I poured the can into a mug and was pleased to see it create a foam head which maintained the entire time I was drinking it. This has a very creamy and smooth texture. For flavor, it definitely carries the mocha sweetness and is highlighted by a nuttiness. Since this coffee was brewed with oat milk, I think the oats are what causes the nuttiness, but there is another secret in this can. On the ingredients list (which was very clean and organic) I saw that they used sea salt.

The combination of sea salt and chocolate affects the way we drink and enjoy this coffee. According to research, salt wakes up the sweet receptor cells in your taste buds and enhances the natural flavors of the chocolate. Because your taste buds are awake, you taste more of the natural flavors and the coffee doesn’t fall flat. Another interesting fact about chocolate and salt is that when sweet cells are engaged, they send signals to the brain which results in positive reactions: the release of dopamine - what makes us happy - and reduction of cortisol - our stress hormone. Obviously if you drink a ton of sugar and caffeine (a normal 8 oz cup is 85 mg), these things are less true, but in the dosage of Rise’s Oat Milk Mocha (70 mg), you can feel the happiness and de-stressing qualities of the chocolate and salt coffee combo.

The Oat Milk Mocha is definitely a coffee that I would drink again. The sweet nuttiness and nitro infusion was well balanced with the chocolate. It had the right amount of caffeine to get me energized without feeling jittery and really did leave me feeling happy and less stressed about the day ahead. I would 100% recommend trying this canned coffee, and other Rise Brewing Co. coffees - I know I will.

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
