Cuvée Cold Brew - Nitro Black Coffee Review

The last stop on our canned coffee adventure is Cuvée’s Cold Brew Nitro Black Coffee from Austin, Texas. After many canned coffees that were sweet and sugary, I wanted to take it back to black coffee. And this can is not for the faint of heart!

When cracked, it has the pleasant pop of nitrogen, and there is a widget in the bottom of the can (like in a Guinness)! It formed a small foamy head which faded as I drank it. Right away this smelled like a strong black coffee with no additional sweetness.

After tasting it, I thought it had a slightly bitter cold brew flavor and was acidic. We likened it to barrel aged whiskey, as we both noted a bit of woody flavors at the back. (It still tastes like coffee, don’t worry!) It was less creamy compared to other nitro coffees I’ve had, and tasted more like a regular cold brew.

This can is strong! One can of Cuvée’s Nitro Black is equal to two regular cups of coffee. I was able to taste the density of the caffeine and feel its pleasant effects right away.

What was particularly interesting to learn about Cuvée Coffee was that they specially built a Cold Brewery. This brewery is dedicated entirely to their cold brews and nitro coffees. After roasting their beans at their roastery, they are crushed and steeped in pre-chilled water. The coffee is filtered and then saturated with nitrogen in a conditioning vessel before being canned and shipped. Cuvée Coffee clearly takes a lot of pride in their cold brew brewing process.

Made with 100% Arabica beans and 36 degree water from start to finish, this is a great black coffee to enjoy during summer. But if you have a sweet tooth, this is not the blend for you. Instead, try their Nitro Horchata with vanilla and cinnamon.

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
