High Brew Coffee - Double Review

One of the first coffees we came across when looking for canned coffee was High Brew Coffee. Although the company now resides in Austin, Texas, the vision for High Brew started on the open ocean. While sailing with their family for 6 months, the founders Elizabeth and David used cold brew coffee to stay alert and energized for their adventures.

They brought that energy and adventurous spirit back to their coffee.

We tried two High Brew Coffees this month: Black and Bold and Mexican Vanilla.

Black and Bold

The name says it all. This cold brew coffee is black and it is bold. It is made from 100% Arabica beans and contains 140 mg of caffeine in only 8 fl.oz. (Wow! An 8 oz cup is typically 95 mg.)

When I first cracked the can, I smelled a dark coffee that had nutty aromas and a hint of something sweet at the end. After sipping it, I thought it was pleasantly bitter and still carried a nuttiness in the flavor. I also noted a light smokiness that made me think of a dark roast cold brew. In a lot of ways, it tasted like a ready to go cold version of what I usually brew in my French press.

Overall, it was a good strong can of coffee that you will definitely enjoy if you drink your coffee black.

Mexican Vanilla

This brew also contains 140 mg of caffeine and is only 90 calories!

After cracking it open, I was hit with a strong aroma of sweet vanilla that reminded me of Abulelita’s Hot Chocolate. I tasted a coffee base similar in flavor to the Black and Bold that was then accented by the added vanilla. Mexican Vanilla also had a creaminess to it that I didn’t expect given how dark in color it was. Nothing about this drink holds back on flavor.

If you are a fan of vanilla lattes, this drink is for you. It tastes very similar to a vanilla latte but with more coffee forward flavors compared to the bitter espresso.

** The first sip was almost all vanilla, so make sure to shake your can gently before cracking it open!

High Brew has several other flavors – including Nitro, Bourbon Vanilla, and a Cappuccino – that I would love to try in the future. These small cans pack just the punch you need to stay caffeinated through your day.

“High Brew is for the go-getters, trend-setters, and do-ers.”

Grab a can at HEB or order directly from them online if you want to give this Texas based company a try. They are clearly passionate about creating a great cold brew and supporting “those who do” in every way they can!

Try it out and let us know what you think.

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
