Espresso Mocha - Black Rifle Coffee Company RTD Review

When you are looking for quick caffeine, canned coffee is a great and easy alternative! It requires no brewing time, no steeping time, and no extra steps. Simply crack it open and enjoy the rush of caffeine. Throughout the month of July, we are going to be looking at canned coffees you can drink when you need that pick-me-up or you’ve run out of time for brewing.

We wanted to start our exploration of canned coffee by trying Black Rifle Coffee’s Mocha Espresso. They describe this ready-to-drink can as having “coffee forward flavors” and the “right amount of sweetness” to balance.

After that first crack it smelled very similar to a powdered hot cocoa – like a dry, rich chocolate. Once we had a few sips, we were greeted with a very chocolatey and creamy taste. I did not taste the forward coffee, but instead found it more at the back end of the sip.

What I loved about this coffee was all the hidden benefits and brewing secrets you can only find if you read the fine print.

This espresso coffee is brewed with Colombian beans, but blended with some chicory root fiber. I love chicory coffee and could immediately taste the sharp chicory notes at the end of the sip. It helps to bring the creamy sweetness together with the sharp acidity of espresso in a very satisfying way. If you haven’t tried chicory before, you won’t even notice it in BRCC’s Espresso Mocha.

Not only is Mocha Espresso brewed with chicory root, but it is also gluten free and infused with protein. It has 7g of protein in only 11 fluid oz. I loved knowing that I was getting a protein boost with my caffeine. For people who are on the go or working hard, this added protein could be the extra push you need to get through the rest of your day. But don’t be fooled, it is packed with sugar!

On top of all this, it has 200 mg of caffeine. According to Healthline, your average 8 oz cup of black coffee contains 95 mg of caffeine. So in our 11 oz of Espresso Mocha, we get an extra kick of caffeine that isn’t bitter or difficult to drink.

Espresso Mocha is a smooth drinker that did not last long once I opened it. It was a good blend of chocolate sweetness with the benefits and kick of caffeine that I often want in my coffee. I didn’t feel jittery after drinking it either. Instead, I felt alert and ready to rock and roll through the rest of my day.

If you are near Bitters Road in San Antonio, stop by the flagship Black Rifle Coffee shop, or you can find these cans in several stores and gas stations for your quick convenience. (Plus, you can order them online once you become hooked.) Black Rifle also has Espresso with Cream and two 300 mg beasts – Caramel Vanilla and Rich Mocha – for those who need even more caffeine.

Try one out this summer and let us know what you think!

Stay caffeinated!
