La Madeleine - French Bakery and Café

La Madeleine in San Antonio, Texas.

After driving past it a few too many times, we were able to stop in for breakfast at La Madeleine! This French Bakery and Cafe looks beautiful on the outside and was even more beautiful on the inside. It held a rustic charm with stone walls, pictures and hanging plates, dimmed lighting, and a gorgeous fireplace. It was such a comforting place to sit and enjoy breakfast.

The menu is quite large and has a lot to offer, plus a pastry case with lots of fresh choices. Mr. Brew and I settled on the Quiche Lorraine (for me), a croissant breakfast sandwich (for him), a chocolate croissant (for dessert), and two cups of French roast coffee.

I was not disappointed! The food came out quick and hot. The quiche was absolutely delicious with a solid crust. It was full of the nice cheese and egg flavor that I was looking for with a good quantity of quality ham mixed in. I thoroughly enjoyed the quiche! Mr. Brew enjoyed the buttery croissant breakfast sandwich, which was a sizable portion. For breakfast dessert, we enjoyed the chocolate croissant - filled with dark chocolate. The chocolate and buttery croissant were beautifully balanced and paired well with the French roast coffee.

We love our black coffee, but sometimes when you go out the black coffee tastes burnt or like it has been sitting in an urn for hours unchecked. This was NOT the case at La Madeleine. The French roast coffee was a lovely blend of smokey bitterness that is typical of this roast. The coffee was fresh and hot and carried us through our meal.

The first La Madeleine was opened in Brittany, France in 1976 by Louis le Duff. Only seven years later it made its way to Texas and opened up in Dallas. Now with more than 80 locations, we were lucky to visit the first location to open in San Antonio on Broadway.

We will definitely be going back to try more of their menu. In the meantime, make sure you stop by yourself and enjoy their delicious French cuisine and the lovely atmosphere.

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
