Snickernut Cookie - HEB Cafe Olé Review

A friend of mine used to drink Snickernut Cookie from a K-cup a few years ago, but my affinity for flavored coffees hadn’t quite developed yet. I thought it smelled so sweet and cloying that I was leery of diving into what I thought would be an unpalatable black coffee.

But, now that I am much more interested in flavored coffees, Mr. Brew and I decided to give it a try. We brought home a bag and brewed it in our French press to our usual specs: 200℉, 50g, steep 4-5 minutes.

Snickernut Cookie is medium-bodied and touts notes of “sweet vanilla and spicy cinnamon.” For pre-ground coffee, it has a slight bloom. The aroma is a very gentle vanilla. Once brewed, the vanilla is more forward and followed by a sweet sugar and cinnamon combination. I don’t get the spicy cinnamon, personally, and am not sure it would be an improvement to sharpen the cinnamon spice.

Snickernut is a pleasant sipper and great if you love a lightly sweet black coffee that won’t overpower your senses. Compared to other HEB coffees, the Snickernut Cookie is less flavored and has more of a subdued sweetness.

We recommend pairing this with cookies (of course), scrambled eggs, bacon, and savory empanadas. The contrast between sweet and savory flavors is sure to brighten your morning and awaken your senses.

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
