Myanmar Single Origin - De Espresso Liber Review

The Coffee - Espresso and French press

While visiting veteran-owned Longtab Brewery here in San Antonio, TX, I came across the De Espresso Liber coffee company and picked up a bag of their Myanmar blend.

I was lucky enough to try this blend as an espresso shot and then again at home as a cup of coffee. The flavors were very similar and enjoyable.

The Myanmar Blend is all about the creamy flavor and feel. Although a little bitter (as all straight espresso is), I was able to taste a gentle chocolate flavor. There were not many other flavors identifiable in this one. This blend was able to maintain a good espresso flavor throughout the life of the shot. Had I asked them to make me a latte using this roast, it would have been a damn good latte.

Before I left the brewery, I had this bag of coffee ground fresh! (What a bloom it created!) I knew I wanted to recreate my own espresso while at home but also wanted to use it in a French press. I had it ground medium-fine (not espresso fine but finer than the normal grind) so that it could work for both. I would recommend using a paper filter in your press if you also try this with a finer grind. It will help keep the “soot” out of the bottom of your cup.

When we made a latte at home, it really brought out the earthy flavors and a lot of the cream from the roast profile. We used a Moka pot (approx. 30 grams) and were able to produce two creamy shots.

As a cup of black coffee, the Myanmar blend maintained its creamy nature and also brought out a very earthy flavor. It smelled like home in a cup for Mr. Brew and I. I tasted less of the chocolate when made in a French press, but it was still smooth and delicious to drink.

About the Company

De Espresso Liber is a Special Forces veteran-owned micro-roaster that was established in 2013. They are dedicated to supporting charities and serving great coffee. They use the highest quality Arabica beans from coffee growers that care for their people. All of their beans are roasted in-house, by order, with original recipes to create maximum freshness in each bag.

The Myanmar Blend is in their line of Single Origin Coffees. These coffees are taken from around the world with a focus on creating a high-quality cup and supporting communities and farms that hold certifications such as Organic, Fair Trade, or Rainforest Alliance.

Along with their Single Origin coffee line, they also have the Gold Star Memorial blends (dedicated to Fallen Soldiers and their families), the Commando blends (dedicated to the Commando’s of WWII), the DEL blends (their original recipes, created and roasted in house), and single-serve options.

It is clear that this company has an appreciation for awesome people and that is something we like to support as well. I am eager to try many more of their coffees in the future.

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
