Jet Fuel - Independence Coffee

French press next to a bag of coffee

This coffee flew into our home on Christmas and I couldn’t wait to drink it. Once I opened the bag it was gone immediately. This coffee quickly became one of my favorites.

Jet Fuel is roasted by Independence Coffee out of Brenham, Texas and is brewed with 100% Arabica beans. They started operations in 2003 with a focus on “develop[ing] [an] 'Independent' style of deep-roasting which pays respect to old-school roasting methods and traditions.” They were able to grow their operations to roast over 650,000 pounds in 2018.

The roasters at Independence Coffee pride themselves on their ability to provide fresh coffee to customers and bag it within minutes of it finishing roasting. I think I’d like to make a trip to Brenham, Texas just to experience the warm beans for myself.

We brewed Jet Fuel with our typical measurements in our French press: 200 degrees and 50 grams of grounds.

After brewing, this coffee gives off a dense and slightly grassy aroma. I could tell right away that this was a strong dark roast coffee. It tastes smoky (which is typical of a dark roast) and has a very smooth finish. This brew has a dark and full-bodied flavor which makes it very drinkable. I don’t catch any hints of chocolate or other sweetness.

If you enjoy drinking black coffee that is rich, strongly caffeinated, and full of deeply rooted Texas flavors, you must check out Jet Fuel. I have had a couple bags already and it doesn’t last long in our home.

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
