French Market Chicory Coffee
While searching the local stores for chicory coffees, we came across French Market. I was eager to try this blend since French Market is also made in New Orleans and has been roasting coffee since 1890. A coffee company with such a long history has to be doing something right to continue to stay on shelves in 2022.
They describe their coffee as “The Flavor of New Orleans… in a cup!” and have been embracing the culture and French Market of New Orleans since conception. As the actual French Market in New Orleans flourishes and booms as a “center for commerce and sociability” so does the French Market Coffee and Chicory blend.
We brewed French Market Chicory Coffee in the French press with our typical measurements: 50 grams of grounds, 200F water. As we let it bloom, we noticed a very earthy aroma. It smells more of coffee than chicory but Mr. Brew felt the opposite about this. What we could both agree on was the flavor.
French Market Chicory has a very balanced chicory to coffee flavor. We didn’t get the usual buzz that coffee gives us, although there was a little there, but the coffee grounds were well balanced with the uncaffeinated chicory root. The coffee itself tasted much less acidic, more balanced, and was quite enjoyable.
If you can find this can on your shelves, definitely give it a try. This is a great cup of coffee to enjoy if you want to try chicory blends and see what they are really like. Or you can head to New Orleans and ask for French Market Chicory and Coffee in restaurants!
Cheers,
Mrs. Brew
