Dirty Chai - Via Bom Dia Review

I love a good dirty chai. The blend of strong cinnamon and clove spice with the earthy, rich coffee flavor is a mouth-tingling flavor I’m constantly chasing. So when Mr. Brew found Via Bom Dia’s Dirty Chai at the store I was eager to brew it at home. I expect strong spiced flavors that imitate my own at-home chai recipe.

bag of coffee next to glass mug of black coffee

Dirty Chai from Via Bom Dia is made with real spices, including: cinnamon, ginger, clove, and cardamom. Via Bom Dia also includes cacao nibs with this blend of flavors. It comes finely ground, so be aware of steeping times (when brewing in a French press) and quantities so that you don’t oversaturate the grounds. Oversaturated coffee can be bitter and acidic, which can kill the wonderful flavor of the spices.

As soon as we open the bag we are hit with a strong chocolate aroma that hints at a vibrant mint chocolate. Behind that strong chocolate are the clove and cinnamon. Once brewed the chocolate continues to dominate the front of the palate and the chai spices linger towards the back of the sip. They are definitely pleasant, but far more subdued than I anticipated.

We brewed this as a moka pot latte and found that the chai spices were more vibrant when paired with the sweet milk.

This medium bodied blend is perfect for someone who enjoys the spices of a chai but wants a gentler every-day sipper. And with the knowledge that every ingredient in Via Bom Dia is carefully sourced and there are no additives or unnatural flavorings in their flavored coffees, you can brew confidently and go forth with your day.

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
