6th Avenue Bistro - Seattle’s Best Review

glass coffee cup, bag of coffee

Labeled as “Bold and Roasty,” we were sure that our first adventure with Seattle’s Best coffee would be a good one. This little red bag of coffee is among the more affordable selection on the coffee shelf at only $6.64. But we don’t want to compromise on flavor just to save a buck.

Right away we notice how fine the grounds are. They are closer to an espresso grind than the coarser grind we prefer in our French press. This can lead to an over-extraction of the coffee grounds (due to more surface area) resulting in a bitter flavor. Be cautious of the steeping time if you use a French press like we do.

When brewed, it produces a minimal bloom, and carries a slightly smoky aroma with a hint of nuttiness and caramel undertones. The caramel and smoke ramp up in flavor and balance the dark and sweet contrasts while still sitting lightly on the palate. It is a pleasant sipper with a slightly dry finish and a strong coffee taste.

If you are looking for a normal, strong coffee that gets you through the day, 6th Avenue Bistro is the dark roast to try. Not overly dark and smoky, it brews more like a medium-dark and produces a smooth cup of coffee.

As the bag says, 6th Avenue Bistro is “made specially for people who appreciate something that’s smooth, strong and a great start to your day.”

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
