Trooper - Iron Maiden & Robinsons Brewery
If any band needed to start a beer empire it was Iron Maiden. If you’ve ever been to an Iron Maiden show you know exactly what I’m talking about. With multitudes of insane fans throughout every corner of the globe, why not BYOB to your own show?
Iron Maiden launched their beer with Robinsons Brewery out of the UK in 2013. And, of course, their first beer had to be a banger--A Premium British Beer aptly named Trooper. In the decade it’s been filling glasses, they have sold over 30 million pints! Not a bad start, and not a bad foundation to bring more beer varieties to massive shows and raving fans across the world.
Here’s a little more info about Trooper Premium British Beer from Robinsons Brewery:
4.7% ABV
Named after the Iron Maiden song “The Trooper”, which was inspired by the Charge of the Light Brigade (More on the history later).
Made with Bobek, Goldings, and Cascade hops.
Deep Golden Ale with notes of lemon.
And what about our First Impressions:
On the eyes--A golden hue with just a slight red-orange tint. It is clear and forms a slight head that dissipates pretty quickly. There is no widget in it for those who are wondering.
On the nose--Upon first instinct, it smells like a British ale. It has sweet malt notes, and is quite crisp on the nose with a slight hoppy spice and citrus.
On the palate--Floral and citrus flavors are most prominent alongside a roasty and somewhat sweet malt foundation. I get a good dose of Cascade (a nice American touch, if I do say so myself) and pleasant citrus notes, as advertised. Like the smell, it is very much an English Ale. The lemon and floral notes help balance the roasted and sweet malt, making it easy to drink.
I saw Iron Maiden in San Antonio some years back, and it was absolutely electric. When the first note of “The Trooper” hit, there was hardly a pair of feet on the ground or a head that wasn’t banging. This beer and the line-up that followed it are a great representation of Iron Maiden.
If you have a chance, give this beer a go. Also, if you are a history buff or curious about the inspiration behind this beer and other Iron Maiden beers, check out more at ironmaidenbeer.com. There are all sorts of great history notes and pieces that give more life to the golden liquid in your glass.
Cheers!
