Taste of DFW - HEB Cafe Olé Review

bag of coffee next to coffee mug

It has been a while since we reviewed one of the “Taste of…” lineup from HEB. We love the Taste of San Antonio for its cinnamon-spice flavors and the Taste of Houston which has a warm buttery flavor, so we figured with a flavor profile of chocolate, caramel, and nutty pecan, it would be a perfect time to review Taste of DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth for any non-Texans).

We brewed Taste of DFW in our French press to our usual specs: 37g of grounds, 24 oz of 200-202℉ water, steep four minutes, press and pour! It is immediately aromatic and full of strong chocolate and pecan aromas.

The flavors are calmer and more pleasing than the aroma, but I have to be honest: it is very artificial. The chocolate has a dry and cheap quality to it and the pecan and caramel flavors are so artificial as to be nearing alcohol-esque and metallic. The aroma way overpowers the rest of the coffee, which is okay once you start sipping, but I am struggling to get past the surface with this brew.

I usually love the HEB coffees, but this one is just not the brew for me. If you are looking for a luscious pecan coffee to enjoy this fall, I’d recommend turning towards HEB’s Texas Pecan or Raven’s Wing Pumpkin Pecan instead.

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
