Focus - Laird Coffee with Mushrooms Review
Laird Superfood has two different organic coffees with blends of functional mushrooms. Curious about the health benefits of infusing mushrooms into our favorite drink of the day, we brought home a bag of Laird’s Focus blend.
We brewed Focus to our usual specs in the French press - 50g coffee grounds, 200-202℉ water, 32 oz, steep for 3-5 minutes.
Right away I catch a hint of citrus along the lines of orange rather than an acidic lemon. The aroma also has earthy notes and is reminiscent of what I would expect from a light roast, even though it’s not. Once sipped, Focus has a medium- to full-bodied mouthfeel and a touch of smoke, woody notes, and a smooth finish. The citrus is less present in flavor and gives way to good coffee.
If you hadn’t read the bag, you would have never known there was anything but coffee in it. But I would be remiss if I didn't share what was in this magical blend of beans. Starting with beans from Peru, Laird adds coffee cherry (to support immune function), Lion’s Mane Extract (to aid cognition and boost your mood), and Rhodiola extract (to reduce fatigue and lessen stressors).
The best part of Laird’s Focus coffee… was the side effects. Mr. Brew and I both noticed a considerable boost in our mood! Every time we drank the Focus coffee we felt happier, lighter, less inclined to drink more and more caffeine throughout the day, and overall more focused on our work.
If you are questioning whether to try a mushroom-infused coffee, just do it. You might find the energy boost intoxicating and Focus just tastes like a good, home-brewed cup. So you (and whoever you trick into trying it) will never suspect otherwise.
Focus was a bit on the expensive side costing us about $14 at our local store. But it was worth it and we will definitely be buying it again.
Cheers,
Mrs. Brew
