Coyote Blend - Medina River Coffee Review

On our last visit we picked up a bag of Medina River Coffee’s Coyote Blend. This whole bean is a dark roast with a slightly oily exterior and what Medina serves when you order a luxurious drip coffee.

Right from the get go, we were drawn in by the powerful coffee aroma emanating from the bag and found it reminiscent of Chiapas coffees we’ve enjoyed before. It is dark, smoky, and begging to be brewed. Once brewed in the French press to our usual specs, we found the same depth of aroma in the flavor.

It has a dark, smoky flavor that hints earthier woody notes, and is balanced with subtle caramel. Coyote has a lighter mouth feel, but still holds a smooth, slightly creamy taste and texture. It is slightly dry at the end of the sip, leaving you coming back for another. This is by no means what I would call a sweet coffee, but it is one that reminds me of steaming mugs around a morning campfire. When I crave a dark coffee, this is the flavor I am looking for.

Barista Notes:

Make this into a deliciously rich latte at home! We made a latte using 30 grams of medium fine grind in a Moka pot. This produced between 6-8 oz of condensed coffee. Mix this with 4-6 oz of warmed and frothed milk (not boiled) and balance to your desired tastes. Coyote’s smoky and caramel flavors also pair well with 1 tsp of Hazelnut sweetener to give more of the latte feel.

For the Foodies:

This coffee pairs excellently with a buttery, homemade Apple Danish. The smoky, creamy flavors complement the buttery, cinnamon sweetness and make for a perfect morning treat.

Aside from the great flavor and high quality of the beans, we were extremely pleased by the affordability of this coffee. We got an entire pound of whole beans for a very reasonable price ($12.99). Whether you pick it up in store, or ship it to your home, grab a bag of Coyote! It is exactly what you will want to start your day with.

Cheers,

Mrs. Brew
