Come and Take It - Texas Grounds Coffee Company Review
The next local roaster on our list is out of Helotes, Texas - right outside the San Antonio city line. We stopped by Texas Grounds Coffee Company for a latte and a bag of coffee. We took home Come and Take It and were eager to try a dark roast after enjoying many light and medium roasts this summer.
Come and Take It is made with 100% Arabica beans from Guatemala, Colombia, and Ethiopia. This blend is unmistakably dark in its aroma and flavors, which we appreciated.
We brewed it in our French press to our usual specs – 50g with 200° water. The bloom was very active and immediately gave off a dark and smoky aroma. The oily beans were beautifully extracted with these measurements and allowed the smoky aroma to infuse the flavor as well. It had a subtle chocolate dryness that coats the mouth after every sip. I did not pick up on any bright or fruity flavors, but I did enjoy the mild and manageable acidity of this coffee.
Located in the heart of Old Town Helotes, the coffee shop itself is very aesthetically pleasing. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by a beautiful bakery display counter, friendly and helpful baristas, and coffee on every wall. There was lots of indoor and outdoor seating and the entire shop had a comfortable vibe to it that spoke strongly of Texas and American pride. We’ll happily return as often as we can.
They are dedicated to giving back to the first responders in their community, and if that is something you believe in too, head to Texas Grounds and grab a latte and a bag of beans for yourself!
Cheers,
Mrs. Brew
